High Park Fire:

These photos are heartbreaking. This fire is burning about 20 miles northwest of our home. According to reports, it was about 50 acres yesterday morning, and it has now burned over 14,000 acres with no hope for containment at this time. Thinking of all the evacuees and firefighters.

isn't charleston incredible? it is one of my favourite places. i had the most incredible manhattan at the bar at husk, so when i saw your post i was like "squeee!" is it okay if i babble about food? SNOB (slightly north of broad) is excellent and if you're into oysters, you have to go to pearlz. are you staying just in charleston or are you also going to folly beach? folly is incredible and if you go you should check out tokyo crepes and taco boy. most of all, HAVE SO MUCH FUN.

Charleston was fantastic! And I knew I should have consulted with Tumblr-verse about our trip. We were actually only in Charleston for one night before we headed down to Hilton Head to spend a couple of days on the beach. It’s definitely a place we’ll visit again, and I appreciate the recommendations. I googled Tokyo Crepes after I got this message, and I can’t believe we missed that!

The answer is a lot of work, actually. I’m incredibly grateful to have amazing bosses and supervisors who, when I emailed them to say, “So, I have the opportunity to go to the Michigan State game (hopefully games!) this week…,” said only, “Are you kidding?! You have to go!”

So going I am! Along with my Aunt Barb, Grandpa Scotty, and a good family friends of ours… three generations of Spartan grads from the good ol’ UP!

I am currently 1-3 in my picks but would gladly sacrifice another game on my bracket to see Syracuse lose. The SO just informed me that I am in last place in his office’s bracket pool, which I won a few years ago by correctly predicting my Spartans underdog journey to the Final Four and championship game. But March is for Comeback Kids, my friends.

And I think this March is for these boys. How do you not love this team?

Edited to add: Um, have you ever seen worse officiating than in this UNC-Asheville hosing? Yeah, me either.

One of my grad school BFFs is defending her dissertation this afternoon, and I cannot believe we’re at this place in our journeys. It’s clichéd to say, but it feels like just yesterday we were meeting for the first time during our program’s Welcome Weekend. It was March 2007, and this grad school thing was just about to begin. I felt like I was on the precipice of something amazing and scary and probably really life-changing.

And that something has been all of those things, and more. I knew coming in that I would learn a lot of cool things and write a lot of words and hopefully help some people along the way, but I was really unprepared for the great relationships I’ve developed over the last five years (five years, oh my god!). I was fortunate to meet some of the most amazing, talented, and driven people, and we’ve seen each other through some of life’s best and toughest moments.

I cannot wait to get to our favorite Fort Collins wine spot this evening to toast yet another accomplishment.
